Q. How old do you have to be to hire a car or scooter from FUN RENTALS? 

A. You have to be at least 21 years of age to hire a car from FUN RENTALS.  If you are under 21, you must be accompanied by your parent(s) during the time you are driving our vehicles.

Q. What type of vehicle can I hire for driving around Waiheke Island ?

A. Our Waiheke car hire vehicles are a range of super cool and super practical, to cater for different customer requirements.  You can check out our range of vehicles here

Q. Do you offer Scooter hire on Waiheke ?

A. No – we no longer offer scooters for hire, sorry.

Q. How do I make a car hire booking ?

Q. How much does it cost to rent a car on Waiheke?
A. Pricing depends on the vehicle and dates you require.  We offer discounts for car rentals of 3 or more days. Get a quote here

Q. What payment methods do you accept?
A. We accept a range of payment methods from EFTPOS, cash and Credit Card payments.

Q. Is the online booking form safe to use / secure?
A. For your safety, we process all credit card transactions through a fully certified, secure third party (Merchant Service Provider).  No credit card details are held by us.

Q. I have heard that Waiheke is a relatively small island, do I really need to rent a car on Waiheke?
A. Waiheke is a large rural island with rugged terrain.  Public transport is irregular and serves limited locations.  Car hire on Waiheke is the best way to get around the island and see the many attractions dotted around the island.

Q. Can I make a reservation outside New Zealand on this web site?
A. Yes.  You are welcome to send an email booking reservation request through our contact us page (or call us).

Q. Is a bond required?
A. No.  A bond is not required for hiring one of our vehicles, but we do have a basic insurance excess of $1000 for our cars and a $750 insurance excess for our scooters.  With our cars, if you are at least 25 years old with a full licence, the insurance excess is $1000 ($750 for each scooter).  If you are at least 21 but not yet 25 years old with a full licence, your insurance excess is $1500.  If you are under 21 years old or have anything other than a full licence (i.e. restricted or learner’s), the insurance excess is $2000.  No funds are held from your account, but we do require a valid credit card and we record the card details.

Q. What are the extra km charges?
A. We do not charge for km’s used – it’s included in the price.  All you have to do at the end of the hire is replace the petrol you’ve used.

Q. What is the standard daily rental period?
A. FUN RENTALS’ one-day Waiheke car hire is up to a full 24 hours.  A 2-day hire is between 25 and 48 hours, a 3-day hire is between 49 and 72 hours, and so on. 

Q. Do you offer discounts for multiple days?
A. Yes we do.  The discounts are factored into the overall hire cost and displayed on the bookings confirmation page or contact us for more info.

Q. What do I need to bring with me when I rent a car?
A. All intended drivers of the vehicle will need to be present and provide a valid driver’s licence.  If payment is via credit card then the credit card holder must be present.

Q. How old do you have to be to rent a car on Waiheke?
A. You must be 21 years old and have a valid driver’s licence with you to rent a car from FUN RENTALS.  If you are under 21, we require a parent or guardian to accompany you on your hire.  Keep in mind your age does affect your insurance excess.

Q. Do I have to return my car at a set time?
A. When you sign your rental agreement, you agree to the terms and conditions contained on the contract, including the time you will return the car.  Generally, this is agreed with you by discussion, but may be limited by any subsequent bookings we may have for that vehicle. This timely return also ensures the next customer will receive their car at the time they reserved it and that the vehicle will be serviced, tidy and ready for them when they arrive.
